    The Senior Instructional Designer/Project Manager contributes to leading-edge, best-in-class training solutions for the enterprise by designing and creating innovative, engaging and interactive content within a variety of training solutions (i.e., eLearning courses, ILT, webinars, on-the-job training, job aids, and blended learning solutions). These training solutions support the success of hourly and leadership team members and drive the achievement of enterprise goals. In addition, the Senior Instructional Designer/Project Manager manages individual instructional design projects, as well as a portfolio of instructional design and training-related departmental and enterprise projects. This person organizes project components, and schedules, tracks and reports on project progress to deliver projects on time and within budget.


    Gather business needs and performance requirements

    • Interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and business stakeholders to articulate a baseline understanding of business objectives, the jobs that people perform to meet those objectives, the skills required to perform those jobs, and the extent to which those skills are absent or in need of development

    Define behaviorally-based learning outcomes and create course assessments

    • Work closely with SMEs and stakeholders to translate performance requirements and skill gaps into the specific learning objectives that must be achieved through training.
    • Apply Robert Mager’s or other theoretical frameworks for writing effective learning objectives.
    • Design tests and other assessment instruments to guide development and measure the success of training

    Determine appropriate instructional strategies and delivery technologies to meet objectives

    • Identify what kind of learning experiences and interventions need to be designed in order to meet the instructional objectives
    • Assess business constraints, audience characteristics, technical environment, budget, and other factors to determine the right media and technologies to deliver the learning (e.g., eLearning, ILT, video, microlearning, and job aids, etc.)

    Develop design specifications and course outlines

    • Organize objectives, content, learning strategies, and delivery media into an appropriate instructional sequence
    • Partner with Director of Leadership Development and team to ensure that delivery requirements are incorporated in the design of ILT (face-to-face and virtual) classroom courses, as well as in the design of blended learning programs


    Manage individual, departmental and enterprise instructional design and training-related projects

    • Act as senior designer and project manager responsible for executing the end-to-end analysis, design, and development process for individual projects (including implementation of course updates based on pilot/TTT observation)
    • Review and approve deliverables produced by SMEs and vendors
    • Act as departmental project manager responsible for scoping, organizing, tracking and reporting on departmental and enterprise instructional design and training-related projects
    • Report to Director of Instructional Design & Curriculum Development on project status and issues, innovative breakthroughs, etc.

    Develop training courses and supporting materials

    • Author e-learning courses using standard templates and a variety of authoring tools
    • Create facilitator guides, participant guides, role-play scripts, and other collateral assets to support the delivery of instructor-led and on-the-job training

    Learning Management System and Instructional Design Specifications

    • Work closely with Sr. Manager of E-Learning to ensure that courses and curricula are effectively designed, delivered and tracked through the Learning Management System (LMS)

    Manage content and maximize re-usability

    • Create and manage a library of re-usable content assets
    • Work with Sr. Manager of E-Learning to leverage the content library across projects and improve efficiencies throughout the development process
    • Remain current with operational changes and developments in learning methodology/technology to continuously improve/update training programs and materials.
    • Revise training programs as needed
    • Coordinate production tasks for the training material (print, eLearning, etc.)

    Optimize development toolset

    • Creatively identify work-around to maximize the capability of authoring tools in light of customer requirements and LMS and other limitations
    • Monitor and research the market to identify leading-edge and cost-effective course-ware development tools that will improve productivity and quality
    • Maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time
    • Read and interpret documents and instructions from customers, vendors, and other team members
    • Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and other team members
    • Multi-task and prioritize workload
    • Work within the appropriate level of independence
    • Function in a fast-paced environment
    • If applicable, ability to travel for meetings with customers, vendors, other team members, and/or other business necessities
    • All other duties as needed or required


    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 5 years’ experience designing and developing interactive engaging learning solutions to impact business results
    • 5 years’ experience managing individual and multiple departmental projects, as well as the instructional design and training-related aspects of cross-functional projects
    • Extensive curriculum design experience with professional, leadership and technical skills development
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to collaborate and establish credibility with busy, non-training professionals
    • Experience developing interactive eLearning using Storyline2 and Articulate Studio (other authoring tools experience is a plus)
