POSITION SUMMARY:

 

G6 Hospitality is seeking a Design and Construction Principal to support the growth of our brands through new construction and major architectural upgrades. The ideal person is an established leader who will transform vision into reality by working with internal and external stakeholders to create and execute the future look of the Motel 6 and Studio 6 buildings. The primary focus of the Construction Principal is to manage the design and build of major capital construction projects.  The D&C Principal will recommend design improvements, construction techniques, and schedules for individual projects. This position will be responsible for monitoring the project from design conception through construction completion. The Principal will provide cost and schedule updates in a timely and professional fashion to key Executive Team Members. The ideal candidate will have Hotel or multi – family back ground with experience phasing projects while the hotel is operating, keeping guest safety and experience as a core principle.

Responsibilities

Design  

  • Manage third party architectural firms
  • Create and maintain a design timeline and ensure we are holding vendors in accordance
  • Ensure property specific furniture layouts, drawings, specifications are updated and current
  • Partner with the Procurement Team to ensure design intent is being followed through sourcing
  • Work with Architect and Contractors to design and build model rooms for review of the Executive Team
  • Take concept drawings to bid for site specific building layouts
  • Review check set of plans prior to completion of architectural and MEP plans
  • Supervise plan submittal to cities and attend zoning hearings or other governmental meetings representing G6 in a professional manner
  • Ensure all plans are accurate, meet G6 approved designs, and local codes prior to going to bid

Project Management

 

  • Review and approve all contractors bids, bid evaluations, change orders, within approved authority
  • Create and monitor all construction budgets and schedules. Provide professional and timely reporting
  • Estimate and negotiate all change orders and maintain a change order log
  • Assemble and maintain a construction manual with all project records and close out documents
  • Monitor all projects with respect to Quality and grading of finished project
  • Make field inspections verifying consistency of standards and details, quality, mock up rooms,
  • Perform punch list inspections in various phases
  • Track and review project manager 3 week audits on costs, ,paper work, and reporting
  • Give direction on all project related questions, issues ,concerns , extras and clarifications on standards
  • Interact with architects ,consultants ,and municipalities ,review and approve plans ,deal with codes
  • Partner with Operations to ensure we are meeting the guests needs
  • Provide timely updates to the operators including the Director of Operations, Regional VP, and Divisional VP

  • Experience assembling bid packages, contract administration, construction phasing, and cost report
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to travel extensively, up to 75% of the time with 25% time in corporate office

 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Education (, Bachelor’s degree in any of these areas-- / engineering / construction management / architectural
  • 7+ years of managing new construction or major architectural projects as an owners rep
  • Must have ground up construction experience
  • Must have 1-2 years of people management experience
  • Prefer Hotel or Multi – Family experience, including condo, apartment, or student housing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Office, CAD, timelines, and Flow Charts
  • Knowledge of construction and technical methods and procedures preferably in a hotel motel environment
  • In dept background in financial reporting ,P/L ,budgeting ,estimating
  • Must be able to present financial data to the Executive team, Controller, or Assistant controller.
  • Strong understanding of hotel / motel operations preferred
  • Up to 75% travel
