The position is responsibility for ensuring that all payroll functions are completed in a timely and accurate manner. The position plans, organizes and oversees weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt Team Members in compliance with FLSA regulations. Ensures payroll activities comply with all federal, state and local laws, rules and government regulations. Ensures all internal and external payroll related reporting and administration of all payroll related programs are completed accurately, within guidelines and in a timely manner. Provides training of assigned personnel. Promotes team collaboration and best use of payroll staff capabilities.. Position must engage in troubleshooting and problem solving within the scope of payroll and within payroll software. Partner with management regarding development of policies and procedures related to the payroll function to improve and increase the efficiency of the payroll function.

  • Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Coordinates daily work activities and assigns work; organizes and prioritizes department workload; monitors status of work in progress; and inspects completed work.
    • Thorough knowledge of Federal tax withholding requirements, state requirements and garnishment laws processing requirements
    • Works closely with management to ensure company and Federal regulations are followed
    • Provides information, assistance and/or training to Team Members related to policies/procedures; answers Team Member/staff questions during payroll editing and check processing
    • Advises, interprets rules and procedures on Federal, state and local laws and regulations involving payroll and related benefit program deductions to ensure ongoing compliance
    • Acts as liaison to staff by answering questions, providing alternatives, and facilitating decision-making
    • All other duties as needed or required

  • Six years of payroll experience or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
  • FCP designation preferred
  • Required 2-5 supervisor experience
  • Minimum of 3 years PeopleSoft experience
  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal payroll and related tax laws, regulations and statutes
  • Demonstrate payroll record keeping and reporting requirements and procedures

  • Demonstrated knowledge of software system implementation and/or system upgrades

  • Skill in both verbal and written communication and preparing detailed reports

  • Proficient use of MS Excel and MS Word
