This is a multi-disciplinary role, which will require a thorough understanding of energy reduction and sustainable strategies. This position will ensure continuous implementation of operational improvement programs to reduce energy and water use across both the Motel 6 and Studio 6 portfolio of hotels. The key goals are to advance adoption of low-cost, no-cost operational modifications, which involve processes to drive action, capture of utility incentives, and engagement of best in class providers. Energy reduction activities will focus on improving existing major mechanical systems, better use of building management systems, ensuring key energy consuming departments are adopting best practices, and supporting culture change around the aggregate cost impacts of low and no cost operational measures.

What you will be doing:


  • Creation, implementation and management of a multi year sustainable energy plan
  • Manage the creation of property energy P&L yearly budgets, forecasts and reporting
  • Manage annual PTAC cleaning program
  • Find and implement low/no cost energy reduction opportunities
  • Manage energy CapEx projects including PTAC conversions and exterior lights to maximize investment and ROI
  • Oversight/implementation of the Motel 6 recycling program including mattresses and TVs
  • Development and implementation of area energy workshops for the field
  • Act as escalation point to resolve energy opportunities
  • Manage and track city and utility rebate programs
  • Development and management of an energy audit tool
  • Create and maintain an energy database including methodology to identify low performing properties and energy reduction opportunities including utility exception reporting
  • Maintain and analyze monthly energy dashboard
  • Produce and oversee utilities monthly accrual, cost control, ad-hoc analysis, recording, reporting and follow up
  • Identify new technology that could produce fast ROI and long term sustainable energy cost reductions
  • Ongoing improvement of energy services provided by Ecova and Schneider Electric, including development and improvement of tools and accuracy of utility data
  • Produce internal communication regarding energy best practices to support and aid in energy performance improvements
  • Franchise support – act as a liaison for franchise locations looking at strategies that not only are a fit corporate locations, but also Franchise All other duties as needed or requiredJ


JOB REQUIREMENTS: Ability on a consistent basis to:

  • Ability to adapt to Enterprise Core Values and Culture
  • 6-10 Years of hotel and commercial building systems experience (e.g., project management, consulting, engineering, utility cost reduction leader)
  • Familiarity with low-cost, no-cost approaches to reduced utility costs and performance through adoption of operational excellence programs
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and other leverage points for broadly implementing operational actions
  • Solid communication and leadership skills, including “site social skills” required to change behaviors of company and site managers
  • Strong technical expertise of energy management and building systems
  • Extensive hospitality or commercial real estate knowledge and relationships
  • Existing established relationships with national vendors and government municipalities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results oriented culture requiring extensive travel (up to 60%)



What we are looking for:

  • Education –Bachelor degree in Engineering, Building Construction, Environmental degree, or related  
  • Energy certification such as LEED preferred
  • Experience – 6 to 10 years of hotel related experience or equivalent
  • Travel on short notice and extensively, up to 60% of the time.
  • Experience with a large national brand preferred
  • Proficient in statically analysis and software
  • Strong ability to analyze financial data such as energy cost savings, ROI, and payback
